Propolis
Propolis, often called bee glue, has an intense resinous, balsamic aroma and a bitter, dry, sometimes mildly pungent taste. Its colour, scent and structure can vary between batches because they depend on the plants available around the apiary and the season of collection.
What do bees use it for?
Bees make propolis from resinous substances gathered from buds and other plant parts, combining them with materials including beeswax. Inside the hive they use it to seal small gaps. Propolis is hard and brittle when cool, but softens and becomes sticky as it warms.
A raw bee product
We offer raw propolis cleaned of larger impurities. Keep it tightly closed in a cool, dry and dark place, away from heat. Use only as directed on the product label; we do not recommend preparing extracts at home using alcohol or other solvents.
Warning: propolis may cause an allergic reaction. Do not use if you are allergic to propolis or other bee products. Stop use if signs of allergy or irritation occur.
